[ITA] Sul mio canale YouTube ho pubblicato due nuovi video dei miei progetti musicali principali, Video Diva e almost automatic landscapes.
Sei da solo dei Video Diva è un brano presente nel nostro disco s(à)crata ed è una cover di un brano dei Lachrima Christi, storica band dicomanese dove suonava il basso Antonio Torino, attuale bassista e fondatore dei Video Diva. I Lachrima Christi sono stati un gruppo che avrebbe meritato di più ma di cui senza ombra di dubbio i Video Diva hanno raccolto l'eredità. Sei da solo è un brano che personalmente amo molto e che ho visto suonato dal vivo dai Lachrima Christi quando ero un adolescente e non suonavo ancora la chitarra. Fu un concerto molto bello perché la loro musica non aveva niente in comune con le band locali del tempo, che erano quasi tutte cover band o brutte copie dei Litfiba e di cui nessuno giustamente si ricorda. I Lachrima Christi invece avevano un suono personale, maturo, internazionale, anglosassone ma anche mediterraneo, suonavano una new wave calda, emozionale e tutto quello che desideravo, dopo averli visti dal vivo, era suonare quella musica. Sono passati anni, ma alla fine ci sono riuscito.
The Secret Sharer di almost automatic landscapes è un brano nato quasi venti anni fa che ha subito vari mutamenti e che ho suonato dal vivo alcune volte. In una forma diversa faceva parte del live set di Downward Design Research, band elettronica di cui ho fatto parte fino al 2013. Ho scritto anche un testo per questo brano e nel 2018 è entrato a far parte del repertorio di H2R, il progetto che condivido con Luigi Maria Mennella, in una forma ancora diversa, impreziosita dalla voce di Luigi e dai suoi interventi musicali, tanto da diventare la titletrack del nostro disco di debutto, sempre del 2018. La versione che si trova nel video, inedita, è quella che ho proposto dal vivo fino a qualche anno fa. Il brano prende il titolo ed è ispirato a un romanzo breve di Robert Silverberg, a sua volta riscrittura in chiave fantascientifica del classico omonimo di Joseph Conrad.

Sei da solo by Video Diva is taken from our album s(à)crata and it's a cover of a song by Lachrima Christi, the band of our bassist Antonio Torino, before founding Video Diva. Lachrima Christi didn't get the exposure the truly deserved but Video Diva are undoubtedly their heirs. I've always loved Sei da solo, since that first time I've seen the band playing it live as a teenager, even before starting to play guitar. It was a wonderful concert as their music had nothing in common with local bands of that time, who were mostly cover bands or bad imitations of Italian rock idols Litfiba that no one justily remembers. Lachrima Christi had a peculiar and relevant sound, a mix of English coldness and Mediterranean warmth and they played in a very personal and emotional new wave style. All I had wanted, after that concert, was to play music like that, and, after some years I must admit I succeeded.
The Secret Sharer by almost automatic landscapes is a track composed almost twenty years ago that has been transformed several times. I used to play it live in my solo shows. In a different form it was part of Downward Design Research (the electronic band I was part of until 2013) live set. I even wrote some lyrics for this track as it became the title-track of H2R debut album, in 2018. H2R are an electronic duo consisting of me and Luigi Maria Mennella, and the version of The Secret Sharer on that album features vocals and musical interventions by Luigi. The version you hear on the video is unreleased and it's the same as the one I played live some years ago.This song is deeply inspired by the short novel of the same name by Robert Silverberg, which is, in turn, a rendition in science fiction style of the Joseph Conrad classic.
